Grammar slicer
Said or Told? Slice.
Read the sentence, then swipe through the word that fits the blank as the words fly up the screen. Slice a wrong one, or let the right one fall, and you lose a heart; the rule shows you why.

How to play
- Read the sentence with the blank.
- Four words are thrown up the screen one after another and arc back down. Only one fits the blank.
- Drag your finger or mouse across the right word to slice it. A quick tap works too, and keys 1 to 4 slice the first to fourth word from the left.
- Slice the right word and the blank fills in, the rule is shown and the whole sentence is read out. Slice a wrong word, or let the right one fall off the bottom, and you lose a heart and see why.
- Clear all eight sentences before your five hearts run out.
Questions
Is this English grammar game free?
Yes — Said or Told? Slice plays in your browser, on a phone or a computer, with no sign-up.
What happens if I slice the wrong word?
You lose a heart and your streak resets. The screen shows the word you cut, the word that was right and the rule. The right word keeps flying, so you can still finish the sentence, but it no longer counts as a clean sentence.
What if the right word falls?
You lose a heart, the right word and its rule are shown and the sentence is read out, then the next sentence starts. Wrong words that fall away cost nothing.
Which words fly up?
The right word, the other word of the pair (said or told), and two more words that do not fit the sentence.
Can I play without a touch screen?
Yes. Drag with a mouse, or press the number keys 1 to 4 to slice the first to fourth word from the left that is in the air.
