Spanish Grammar Explained · Lesson 4

Preterite vs Imperfect

Spanish has two past tenses, and learners mix them up constantly. The preterite (pretérito indefinido) tells you an action is done and complete — it happened, it ended. The imperfect (pretérito imperfecto) describes what was ongoing, habitual, or happening in the background. Ten worked examples with clear pronunciation.
