How to play

  1. Read the English word at the top — that is the clue.
  2. Three basketball hoops slide gently across the court, one above the other. Each backboard carries a Spanish word.
  3. Drag back from the ball and let go, like a slingshot, or flick it upwards. Dotted guides show where a pulled-back shot will fly. With a keyboard, use the arrow keys to aim and the space bar to shoot.
  4. Drop the ball down through the hoop that carries the translation of the clue to score. The wrong hoop costs a heart and shows you the right word; the clue stays so you can still clear it.
  5. A shot that misses every hoop costs nothing — the ball just comes back. Clear all six clues before your five hearts run out; you hear each Spanish word spoken.

Questions

Is this Spanish basketball word game free?

Yes — Word Toss plays in your browser, on a phone or a computer, with no sign-up. Sign in only to save the words you meet to your review deck.

What happens if I miss every hoop?

Nothing is lost: the ball comes back and you shoot again. Only dropping the ball through a wrong hoop costs a heart, and a clue you got wrong no longer counts as a clean clue.

How do I aim on a phone?

Put your finger on the ball, pull it back and down, and let go: the ball flies the opposite way, and the harder you pull the farther it goes. A quick flick upwards works too.

Can I practise one topic?

Yes. Use the theme picker to draw the words from a single category — animals, food, the home and more.
