How to play

  1. Read the English word at the top — that is the clue.
  2. Your boat floats at the top of the pond. Four fish swim past at different depths, each carrying a Spanish word.
  3. Slide the boat with your finger, the mouse or the arrow keys until it is above the fish you want, then lift your finger, click or press Space to drop the line.
  4. Hook the fish whose word translates the clue to score and hear the word. A wrong fish costs a heart and shows you the right one.
  5. If the hook reaches the bottom without touching a fish, nothing is lost: it winds back up and you try again. Clear all six clues before your five hearts run out.

Questions

Is this Spanish fishing game free?

Yes — Word Fishing plays in your browser, on a phone or a computer, with no sign-up. Sign in only to save the words you meet to your review deck.

What happens if I drop the line and catch nothing?

Nothing is lost: the hook winds back up and you can drop it again. Only hooking a wrong fish costs a heart.

Do the fish ever swim away with the right word?

No. The fish keep circling the pond, so the right one always comes round again — take your time to read and listen.

Can I practise one topic?

Yes. Use the theme picker to draw the words from a single category — animals, food, the home and more.
