How to play

  1. A Spanish proverb is hidden behind a cipher — every letter has been consistently swapped for another, and its English meaning is shown as your clue.
  2. Tap a coded letter on the board, then tap the real letter you think it stands for; your guess fills in every place that code appears.
  3. To keep it approachable, every vowel is filled in for you from the start — so you only need to crack the consonants — and you can spend a hint to reveal one more.

Questions

Is this Spanish cryptogram free?

Yes — it plays in your browser with no sign-up. Sign in only if you want to save the sayings to your review deck and track your best score.

How does a cryptogram work?

Each letter of the alphabet is replaced by a different letter, the same way every time. By spotting common Spanish letters and short words you work out the substitutions and reveal the hidden sentence.

What are refranes?

Refranes are Spanish proverbs or sayings — short, well-known phrases that carry a piece of folk wisdom. Decoding them teaches you idiomatic Spanish you'll hear from native speakers.
