How to play

  1. Each round shows a Spanish sentence with the verb missing and its English meaning above.
  2. Tap the form you think is right — ser (es, soy, son…) for permanent traits, or estar (está, estoy, están…) for states and locations.
  3. The blank fills in, the correct sentence is read aloud, and you see the rule that applies — so a wrong guess still teaches you.
  4. Answer six per round and aim for a perfect score.

Questions

What's the difference between ser and estar?

Both mean “to be”. Ser is for permanent things — identity, origin, profession, characteristics and time. Estar is for location and temporary states — feelings, conditions and where something is. This game drills the distinction sentence by sentence.

Is this ser vs estar game free?

Yes — it plays in your browser with no sign-up, and explains the rule for every question. Sign in only if you want to save the sentences to your review deck.

Does it cover the tricky cases?

Yes — it includes the ones learners trip on, like location always taking estar (even permanent: “Madrid está en España”) and adjectives that change meaning with ser vs estar.
