Questions

What's the difference between pero and perro?

Pero (but) has a single tapped r; perro (dog) has a rolled double r. The pairs here also include stress contrasts like papa (potato) and papá (dad).

Why is this useful?

The r/rr and stress contrasts change meaning in Spanish, so training your ear to hear them helps both your listening and your pronunciation.
